Sphere's 17,600-seat dome transforms the film into a sensory-rich environment. Panoramic visuals, ambient effects, and directional sound elevate Dorothy's journey from Kansas to the Emerald City in a way that's never been done before.

This marks the first time Sphere has adapted a legacy film for its dome, diverging from its original programming of live concerts and made-for-dome features like Postcard from Earth. Warner Bros. and Sphere Studios worked together to create a streamlined 80-minute version of the film, tailored to Sphere's massive 16K LED screen and immersive format.

The Wizard of Oz Sphere also signals a broader move toward daytime programming with wider appeal. Timed to align with Judy Garland's birthday month, the release invites longtime fans and newcomers alike to revisit the film in a new light.

Sphere's design is central to the experience. Its curved interior is covered in more than 160,000 square feet of ultra-high-resolution LED panels, allowing for deep, detailed visuals. Audio is delivered via HOLOPLOT technology that enables sound to move precisely across the space—for instance, Toto's bark may appear beside you one moment and overhead the next. Effects like wind gusts, floor vibrations, and environmental scents add physical depth to the visuals.

"This isn't about watching a film. It's about entering one," a member of the production team said.

The Wizard of Oz Sphere is already making a visual impact outside the venue as well. A 50-foot sculpture of the Wicked Witch's legs, complete with 22-foot ruby slippers, now extends from Sphere's entrance—a new photo stop on Sands Avenue. A citywide campaign echoes the theme, and nearby resorts have rolled out Oz-themed cocktails, slot machines, and décor tie-ins.

Visitors can catch screenings multiple times daily beginning August 28. Sphere is easily accessible via footbridge from The Venetian and includes a dedicated rideshare loop on Koval Lane. Arriving early gives guests time to explore the Oz-themed lobby and interact with Aura, the venue's AI guide, now programmed with show-related dialogue.

For optimal visuals and sound balance, mid-bowl seating is recommended. Sphere also offers haptic seating with adjustable feedback to accommodate different preferences.
